RSN Participates in Maritime Security Exercise to Strengthen ADMM-Plus Cooperation

The Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) RSS Resolution has concluded her participation in the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)-Plus Maritime Security Exercise, Exercise Mahi Tangaroa. Co-organised by Brunei and New Zealand, the exercise was conducted from 13 to 15 November 2016 at the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland, New Zealand.

Exercise Mahi Tangaroa involved naval ships and boarding teams from Australia, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States. As part of the exercise, participating units conducted boarding operations, manoeuvring serials and maritime security patrols, to strengthen mutual understanding and interoperability, to effectively address maritime security threats.

This is the second ADMM-Plus maritime security exercise, the first of which was co-organised by Australia and Malaysia in 2013 and held in Australia. In May 2016, Singapore also co-organised the ADMM-Plus Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism Exercise with Australia, Brunei and New Zealand.

The ADMM-Plus is made up of 18 countries, namely the 10 ASEAN countries as well as Australia, China, Japan, India, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. Since its establishment in 2010, the ADMM-Plus has made significant progress in facilitating strategic dialogue between defence officials as well as practical cooperation between militaries. Such interactions continue to contribute to confidence building and the promotion of stable military-to-military relations to enhance regional peace and stability.
