35th Shared Awareness Meeting

The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) held the 35th Shared Awareness Meeting virtually on 15 Jul. More than 170 representatives from navies, coastguards, international agencies, academia, and the shipping industry from 32 countries joined the session. 

They were provided with updates on the regional and global maritime situation. A particular focus at this session was the security situation in the Gulf of Guinea, an important maritime transit route. IFC facilitated presentations by speakers from the European led Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz (EMASOH), Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade – Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG), and the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO). 

An update on the maritime situation in the region by LCDR P Ashok Varma, an International Liaison Officer from the Indian Navy attached to the IFC.

An update on the maritime situation in the Gulf of Guinea by LCDR Gilles Chehab from MDAT-GoG. The area is of concern for the international shipping community due to an increase in piracy incidents.
